A bit slow. I watched it at 1.75x speed. Either way I still got all of the info I needed. Thanks for the video.

When I first did this, I applied a Transform/Size effect to the bottom clip (to effectively zoom in), then a second Blur effect, then a third Brightness effect (to dim the sides a bit). A lot of work, but I then saved the Effects Stack. It now appears under Custom in the Effects listing. When I want to reuse it, I put my background clip on V1 and apply this saved stack. Nothing more to do. This saves a lot of work if you have lots of portrait clips or videos in your project.

If you have people in the clip, it is much better to use the Size entry instead which will zoom in filling the sides. Excellent, well paced video with a good example.

Too bad I don't know how to put blurred original video behind it. Poor man's frame interpolation. I tried chroma key, but even with 100 tolerance it leaves ugly, black borders. Well, for now I'll have to use quirky and always-crashing Deshaker in VirtualDub.

The comments section of this video were very helpful because I couldn't remember the name for the effect. Blanking effect will do this for you instantly with any image of video. The video on the other hand is 5 minutes and 3 seconds of wasting your time!

How have you found Davinci Resolve for editing. I have been using Premier Pro but am sick to the back teeth of the cost and lack of real support.

Excellent presentation. Showing the final representation up front is the only way any video like this should be, but so many other presenters skip this step.

When I have a lot of clips, I'll often sort them out and put them into separate folders on the hard disk. Then when the parent folder is dragged into the media bin, they'll import as separate folders. Also, it's possible to create virtual folders in the project bin and more or less accomplish the same thing. So for a wedding shoot, one folder might be for "preparation", a second for "ceremony", and a third for "reception".

In this kind of video, I may have 3 volume tracks. One for the lecturer, a second for voiceover (narration), and a third for music (used sparingly in this case). Each track is keyframed for volume adjustment. Also I've found it good to have some crowd noise on one of the tracks, else the narration sounds like it was done in a studio rather than on location.

The roof is now repaired, so all that scaffolding is gone. The rooms are now dressed more like a home (without many of those temporary display cabinets seen here that were put in whilst certain rooms were out of action) Amazing 'upstairs/downstairs' experience, good garden and Teign valley walks.
